Soy Milk

My mom made some homemade-from-scratch soy milk today for the first time in years. Mmm. I have forgotten how much I love soy milk. I used to drink it by the gallons when I was little. I'm not sure how she makes it or what goes into it, but it takes about a day to complete the entire process.

I usually drink soy milk on it's own, but I've heard it that goes well in cereal. I'm not much of a cereal eater, but if I ever get the chance I'll have to try it out.

Yay for soy milk!

A Guide To Asian Snacks (Part 1)

I just went with a friend to the Asian Supermarket today and bought a few snacks and candy. Mmm. Yummy. So if you're ever in an Asian Supermarket, I highly recommend the following candy. You can buy these candies online too, but they're usually more expensive online versus getting them at a store.

Kasugai Gummy Candy

These fruit flavored gummies are delicious. The flavors are very true to the fruit, I believe the Kiwi ones actually have kiwi seeds in them. My favorite is the Lychee (Litchi) gummies. I grew up eating Lychees and I can honestly say that the flavor is extremely close. Lychees are a very sweet, flavorful, and juicy fruit. It's one of my favorite flavors. Unfortunately there aren't very many American Lychee candies.

The gummy itself is round and packaged individually. They are not sticky and will not glue themselves to your teeth. They are meant to be enjoyed a few at a time, but it's very hard not to eat the whole package in one sitting. I try hard not to.

Flavors: Lychee (Litchi), Strawberry, Grape, Kiwi, Orange, Melon, Peach, Pineapple, Apple, Muscat

Price : Around $2.30 in stores. You can buy them here for a reasonable price.

Frutips

Frutips is a candy made by the Nestle company. They are fruit flavored pastilles (a harder type of gummy). They come in Black Current, Strawberry, Lychee (yay!), and Mixed and are made out of fruit juice. They packaged in a tube or bag.

The texture can be describe as a mix between a sour gummy candy (although it's not sour, but it has a coating of crystals) and a gumdrop. It's not as soft as a regular gummy and it might stick to your teeth every once in a while. The flavor is nice, I like the Strawberry ones. Yum.

They cost around $2.50 or so in stores. I heard they are also popular in some parts of Europe too.

Ramune

Okay, so this isn't really candy, but it's still fun to drink. Ramune is a Japanese soda with a unique way of opening. In order to open the bottle you must force a glass marble stopper out of the cap and into the neck of the bottle. The neck has a small area to catch the marble, there is also a stopper on the side of the neck to prevent the marble from rolling back into the cap when you drink (however it's only on one side of the neck and occasionally the marble will slip past).

The method of opening the bottle may be a little pointless, but it sure is fun (and very very messy). The soda comes in various flavors including Original ( a sprite-like flavor), Strawberry, Peach, Orange, Melon, Raspberry, Lychee, and a few others (including a Hello Kitty themed bottle).

I've heard stories about people breaking the bottle after finishing the soda and keeping the marbles. Also when you open the bottle, you can't close it again, so beware of spills.

A bottle usually costs around $1.30. You can buy some online here.

Calbee Shrimp Flavored Chips

Don't knock it until you've tried it. I personally don't think they taste like shrimp at all, but they are yummy. And they're not really "chips" per se, but they're more like Cheetos. They are long in shape with linear grooves down the side. They have a nice salty flavor (not briny at all) . It's kinda hard to describe. But they are yummy nonetheless. They also come in a variety of flavors like Wasabi (which I'm none to fond of).

I've been eating these since I was a little kid. The packaging has pretty much remained unchanged.

If you decide to give these a try, I recommend getting a small snack sized bag. That way if you dislike them you won't be wasting a lot of food. The snack sized bags are reasonably priced too, around $0.65 or so.

Conclusion

If you don't have any Asian Grocery stores nearby and do not want to order online, I would recommend stores that carry Anime merchandise (like Suncoast video/entertainment stores). They usually carry a few snacks like these (mainly Ramune).

Stay tuned for Part 2 and more snacks from the far east.

Depressed...

I just got my grades for my first semester in college. I didn't do as well as I thought. Although the grades aren't terribly bad (most of my classmates did the same or worse), they are still lower than my usual work. I'm just a little upset about it and disappointed at myself. I plan on retaking the courses again either during the summer or next year to try and get a better grade. *sigh*

So if I don't post any new features for a while, please forgive me. I'm just a little depressed.

Jewelry by Principessa Twinz

No, we're not dining in a Japanese restaurant. You're actually looking at handcrafted Sushi necklaces by Principessa Twinz, created by twins Ann & Michy. Looks good enough to eat doesn't it? The meal even includes a drink! Although I don't really like eating fish, there's something about sushi that intrigues me. It's a must have for any sushi lover.

In addition to realistic sushi necklaces, Principessa Twinz also carries a large variety of other beautiful jewelry pieces. While you're there, you can also pick up a few kawaii supplies such as origami paper, deco tape, and stationery.

If you haven't noticed, I love food related goodies. They always look so tempting and delicious. It makes me hungry. I think I'll go get a burger. Yum.

How To Buy On Etsy

Although most of the people who visit Indie Pretty are familiar to Etsy, there are probably those who have never heard of the website. So to those people here is a tutorial on how to purchase and pay for things on Etsy. Please note that you are required to register before you can purchase items.

1. As you can see Etsy is composed of many individual shops. Think of it as an online shopping mall of sorts. With that in mind, if you have items in your shopping cart from a number of different shops, you can check out all at one time but you need to pay each shop individually.

2. Each shop has their own policies. Some shops may only accept Credit Cards, Paypal, Check, or a combination of the above. Please make sure to read the listings and shop announcements carefully to see what forms of payment they accept.

3. If you choose to pay by Paypal or Credit card, you will need to click the "Pay with Paypal" button at the end of your checkout (even if you're paying by Credit Card). Your purchase is not complete until you actually send payment by clicking the button and entering your billing information.

4. If you forget to click the button or choose to pay later, you can do so by going to Your Etsy > Purchases > View Invoice > Payment.

5. It is Etsy's policy that the buyer must pay (or send payment) within 3 days. Some shops may allow for more time under certain circumstances, please contact the shop if you run into difficulty paying on time.

6. If you have not paid and do not want the item anymore, it is crucial for you to contact the shop and let them know. It is considered rude and inconsiderate to purchase something, not pay, and never return.

7. Each shop has their own refund/return policy, please read them before purchasing to avoid unnecessary conflict. If you cannot find the shop's refund/return policy, please contact them.

8. Feedback is an important part for Etsy sellers. Please take the time to leave feedback for the items you have purchased. To leave feedback go to Your Etsy > Feedback > Items Awaiting Feedback.

9. Conversations is the mode of communication on Etsy. Sellers may contact you through conversations with information about your order. You should receive an email telling you that you have a new conversation. It is important that you read your conversations because they may contain vital information about your order.

10. Have fun, there are tons of shops on Etsy and you'll never know what you'll find.

I hope that this tutorial hasn't been a bore to read. Fortunately after you've gotten the hang of it, purchasing and paying will come second hand.

Miniatures by Tooth Fairy Miniature

If you love the beauty of cakes, but always end up eating it all, grab a miniature cake from Tooth Fairy Miniature! They're made out of polymer clay and will last much longer. I am simply amazed at the amount of intricate detail on each and every one of her miniature creations.

Each one of her cakes are created by hand with no molds used. Each flower, cake, and other decorations were created from scratch. Her shop currently sells beautiful miniature jewelry; there are pendants, brooches, earrings, and more.

If you have the time, you should definitely take a peek at her past works through her Flickr pages, they are so amazing! They look so good, I want to eat them...but alas, I can't.

Stationery & Supplies by From Japan With Love

Although the supplies in this shop are not handmade, this shop rocks my world! After all, everyone could use some awesome supplies. Sofia sells all sorts of super cute stationery and supplies straight from Japan. You probably can't get all of the kawaii-ness (cuteness) that she has to offer anywhere else outside of Japan.

From Japan With Love carries notepads, fun glue, awesome puffy stickers, stamps, decorative tapes, fabric tapes, and more. You can use them to write notes and letters to friends, scrap booking, collaging, card making, or whatever your imagination desires. I'd probably make my own cute stationery and write weird notes to people.

Even though they come from Japan, the prices and shipping are very reasonable. I think that if I ever went to Japan, I'd probably go broke in the first week from buying all sorts of neat goodies.

Charms by Tiffany Bell

You know what? I'm a nerd (surprise surprise!). I'm a big Legend of Zelda nerd, so it's only natural that would be drawn to artisans who create Zelda themed work. Tiffany Bell's creations have become my new obsession. Her LoZ Lon Lon Milk Bottle charms are so cute! It makes me smile with girly glee. I love the Ocarina of Time game, which is where the Lon Lon Milk comes from. Yay! *squee*

In addition to fabulous milk charms, Tiffany Bell also creates a wide assortment of other charms such as Harry Potter potion charms, message in a bottle charms, fortune cookie charms, and much more. Each charm is crafted by hand with careful attention to detail. The Milk charm even has a label with a cow on it! How cute is that.

Also, she currently has a life size Lon Lon Milk Bottle for cosplay use! But if you want it, hurry!

Mmm. I want that Milk Charm. I want to make a cellphone charm out of it. I want to go around showing it to people because I have a cool charm and they don't. Yeah. *writes that down in her master plan*

False Memories

Have you ever had a memory that you aren't sure actually happened?

I do. There's this particular memory from my childhood that I'm not really sure actually happened. It's so vague that it could have been just a dream. Most of my memories are very clear and accurate, so it is very unusual that I would have a memory with so little detail. A part of me wants to believe that it actually happened because the details I do remember are so clear, but another part of me believes that it is quite possible that it was only a dream.

At this point in time, I do believe it actually happened. Why would I remember it if it was only a dream, I can barely remember dreams I had last week nevertheless dreams I had as a child. However it's still very questionable.

Ceramics by Kim Westad

Can you believe that the pieces above where hand thrown?! Yes, hand thrown! I have difficulty making a simple bowl and Kim Westad can create such gorgeous pieces like these. I'll never cease to amaze me to find such talent. I love the Whirl serving dish (last picture), although the only person I'd be serving is me. It's fun, beautiful, and all around awesome. It reminds me of a nautilus!

With a modern sophisticated style these pieces will add pizazz to your home. The kitchen wares look so pretty, I'd almost hate having to get them dirty with food. If I were to buy a few of her pieces, I'd save them for special occasions (like sucking up to a boss). I'm not worthy enough to eat from them every day.

I was going to feature one of her Whirl bowls, but all of them have already sold out within a matter of days. Lucky people. Times like these makes me wish I had more money. I need to study hard here at college, get my degree, and make some money so I can spend it on Etsy. Yup. That's the plan.
